Paris Fashion Week 2010 Dior

Dior SS11
John Galliano doesn't just create a collection around a theme... he creates a fantasy around a collection. For Spring 2011 it was all nautical sailors and island belles, with sailor pants and caps matched by buckled ankle boots and slouchy socks bringing the masculine elements, and ribbon-tie heels, floating silks, and floral lei necklaces ramping up the tropical glamour. As always, Galliano's girls were in full fantasy theme. Classic makeup modernised by bold colours and vintage-glam hair - thickly fringed and neatly curled - could only be made more retro by the occasional addition of cat eye sunglasses.

Paris Fashion Week 2010 Lanvin

Lanvin SS11 Alber Elbaz's Grecian draping and asymmetrical shapes haven't gone anywhere for. They have, however, taken up lodging with some new sporty elements and understated leather harness details. As always Elbaz' work for Lanvin catches your attention as much for the accessories as the clothing - and this time around, both the shoes (heeled and flat), jewellery, and bags are to die for.

Paris Fashion Week 2010 Balmain

Balmain SS11
There are the individual pieces of Balmain's spring 2011 offering that I know will be successful. The leather capri pants will be in hot demand and we'll undoubtedly cover them in many a street style photo. The silver tones throughout the collection will be perfectly on trend once the season arrives. And certain takes on short-shorts are so hacked up that they're sure to inspire a thousand 'interpretations'. All this I know. And yet, I loathe to say, something is amiss. All the looks feel a bit done, a little bit like what we're used to. Certainly, the quality will be there. But this is Balmain under Christophe Decarnin - I've come to expect more. I've come to expect a label able to take the season's key trends, fused them into a sole collection, and then take it to a stratospheric level. I've come to expect a label that can keep a tend going simply though excellent, extravagant design. I've come to expect a label with its finger on the pulse. Alas, punk is neither on trend nor extravagant, and what Balmain has brought to it all feels a little bit too done and dusted for 2011.

Dsquared2 Fall/Winter 2009-2010

Need an excuse to wear a gown on a more regular basis? Why not pair it with a leather bomber, aviators and a wool scarf and wear it on your Saturday morning Roberston Blvd. Starbucks run!?! According to DSquared2 Fall 2009 collection, you can! Dean and Dan Caten sent models out with Starbuck’s lattes, checking Blackberrys and even lighting up a cigarette to fully illuminate their collections theme of high-low (Starbucks would be the low). The DSquared2 Fall 2009 collection is all about mixing high and low items. The gowns with coffee were just one example, the collection also included the timeless combination of trucker hats and fur coats, something we wear on a daily basis…

Summer Lovin

As Winter gives way to the warmer months we'll farewell the darker and heavier looks and welcome light fabrics and sexier looks.

Colour Trends
Whilst at first glance this palette looks vast it seems to play on quite a similar set of hues, featuring mostly light & bright summery colours which try to capture a younger and a more up beat tone. Stylists involved with the viannual colour meeting organised by Eurovet have said that while we will probably see these colours used on their own to some degree, we will mostly see them as parts of either embroidery or used in extremely colourful pop graffiti prints.

Fashion Trends
The start of Summer means it's time to refresh your wardrobe ; And what a time it is: the first new season for 2010, and the first since the affects of the global financial crisis have begun the wane. Take this as an opportunity to not only splurge, but to set a course for how you'll dress.

Lace
Right now you're thinking that this is nothing new. And you're right; it's an extension of the trend that's has, for some time, firmly cemented itself as its own, independent trend. So what follows is, instead, more about how to wear the trend now, and how to set yourself apart from the masses - so that you can bring it forwards and into a new league

Hot Pants and Boy Shorts
Many recent fashion trends have pointed to it, and given the popularity of the likes of it should really come as no surprise. Yes, hem lines continually become shorter as time marches on, but this may be the first season where hem lines can be predominantly measured in negative figures.

Stripes
Amongst the plethora of fashion trends for  Summer 2010 you'll find the season's new take on military fashion. While heavily influenced by 20th Century army and air force styling, nautical influenced pieces have hardly got a look in. And I'm afraid I'm not here to change that. But for those fashioniser who are nautically inclined, this Summer still has something in store. Don't think of it as a nautical military trend, however. Rather, it's the navy and white colour palette, worn as dominant stripes.
